When we ran out of thoughts we turned the ratchet from loosen to tighten and bolted the car together. With a speedway mig welder borrowed from Phoenix we tried to make series the two halves stick. After struggling for hours, experimenting with voltage and wire speed, we finally showed Weldon, a third-generation ironworker, our progress. After several moments of silence, staring at our atrocious splatter of mini drill press weld, he said, "well, i hope you''re at least having fun." dealing with strangers press first became a problem on a particular wednesday lunch at the phoenix iron works, a month before speedway and series our departure. despite people''s interest, i found myself getting drill grouchy. an enthusiastic stranger who walked in off the streets managed to ask the same exact questions i had already answered twice that day. "wow," he said staring at the table, "where did you get the idea?" a button pressed inside my head and i launched into spiel #1. when i reached the end of my recording, i beeped and he asked, as if on cue, "what are you going to do when it rains?" without hesitation, i returned, "get wet," and prepared for the next assault. before he had even finished asking: "how are you going to get across the oceans?" i was screaming dementedly, "take a boat! take a boat!" both the 420d/it and 430d/it are powered by the 4.0 l, four-cylinder, cat 3054t diesel engine. the engine in the press and speedway 420d/it is rated 85 hp net at 2200 rpm, while the engine in the 430d/it is rated 94 hp net at 2200 rpm. all engine configurations feature dry-type, donaldson radialseal, two-stage air cleaners with restriction series gauge and denso marston radiators. the 416d features a turner powertrain power-shuttle transmission that provides four speeds forward and reverse. the transmission uses full synchromesh in all gears to permit on the go shifting of all gears up or down. a neutral start provision prevents starting drill while the shuttle is engaged. the torque converter free-wheel clutch allows the converter stator to free-wheel during high-speed, low-load press conditions such as roading. the forward and reverse electric power shuttle is controlled by a hand-operated lever that provides instant direction changes between forward and reverse through power hydraulic clutches. ©2003 www.drill-press.net All rights reserved. |
