This article describes this new compressor technology and its first use in an ARI-certified chiller design.THE BEARINGSTraditional centrifugal portabledrillpress and portabledrillpress compressors use roller bearings and hydrodynamic bearings, both of which consume power and require oil and a lubrication system. Recently, ceramic roller bearings, which avoid issues related to oil and reduce power consumption, were introduced to the HVAC industry. The lubrication of these bearings is provided by the refrigerant itself. (1)Magnetic-bearing technology is significantly different. A digitally controlled magnetic-bearing system, consisting of both permanent magnets and electromagnets, replaces conventional lubricated bearings. The frictionless compressor shaft is the compressor''s only moving component. It rotates on a levitated magnetic cushion (Figure 1). Magnetic bearings--two radial and one axial--hold the shaft in position (Figure 2).

The wheels independently mount on radial contact ba1l bearings to ease swiveling and reduce tire and scuffing wear. The portabledrillpress casters are available with four fittings: screwed pin, plain pin and circle clip, square and oblong plate, and round rubber expanding plugs. An ergonomic brake with a push-on/off button is also available. A brake indicator located behind the brake button shows red when the brake is activated. T" Series heavy-duty casters are made from cold-forged steel. They arc long lasting and available with 4-, 5-, 6-, 8-, and 10-in, wheel diameters, thread widths of 2- and 2 1/2-in., and Capacities to 1,500 lb. Use CC5W, maneuverable, walk behind battery-powered tug to push, pull, or maneuver heavy carts or equipment that require turning. Ideal for carts with 2 front swivel casters and 2 straight casters. Attaches to end with swivel casters and provides pushing and pulling power for turning and intricate maneuvering. Unit''s variable speed twist grips allow operator to maneuver carts up to 15,000-lb. in tight areas. portabledrillpress Compact, 36-v. motor runs on 3, 12-v. batteries. Operates entire shift without re-charging. Features tubular steel frame, neutral throttle braking, adjustable acceleration and braking, non-marking tires, and battery gage. Travels 0 to 3 m.p.h, in forward and reverse.

* Don''t spray windows. The high pressure can break them.Better cleaning with detergentsDetergents (about $6 to $14 a gallon) and accessory brushes increase cleaning effectiveness while reducing cleaning time. When renting or buying a pressure washer, inquire what accessories and detergents are available for it. To prevent damage to the internal parts, never run bleach in the machine or use detergents not designated for use in pressure washers.Detergents can only be run through pressure washers using a wide spray pattern. In addition, electric pressure washers require a low-pressure setting on the spray wand. Follow your machine''s instructions for using detergents, diluting the detergent and (if necessary) hooking up a chemical injector (Photo 1). For the best cleaning results, first loosen the dirt with plain water under high pressure using a medium spray pattern. Next, apply the detergent using a wide nozzle setting and let the detergent sit a few minutes to penetrate the dirt. Keep the surface wet to avoid possible discoloration or damage y the detergent. Finish by resetting the nozzle to a medium pattern (or changing the nozzle) and rinsing with plain water. Switch detergents by draining the first detergent from the pressure washer, rinsing the system with plain water and introducing the next detergent.
