[FIGURE 8 OMITTED]To give the water team more breathing room, the 3T group suggested that the water team divide the official start of the test into two components: (1) the BWP and the reverse osmosis and (2) the reverse osmosis and the other two subsystems (AES and PPS). In the iWRS system, the pivotal subsystem is the reverse osmosis. This system receives BWP effluent, processes it, and provides product water for the two downstream systems. In effect, the BWP is independent of the downstream systems, so it could conceivably be started early when the downstream mortisetenonwithdrillpress systems were still being built. Because of the modularity of 3T, the initial iWRS could consist of the first two subsystems, with the output going to drain while the inoculation proceeded, and the second iWRS could include all four subsystems. In this manner, the water team started the test with only the first two subsystems in April 2000 and brought the other two systems online in December 2000 in time to make a January 2001 full start.

The Medallion 92 series of two-stage reciprocating air compressors is part of a new line of compressors built for durability and trouble-free service. The compressor includes multi-finned cylinders for maximum cooling and a gasket-free integral cylinder to prevent blown head gaskets. The series includes electric models ranging from 5 to 30 hp and an 11-hp gas-driven model. Stanley Works of New Britain, Conn., introduces the CWC200ST electric powered air compressor. Designed with a unique control panel and stacked compressor tanks, the unit allows the user to remain standing when accessing the regulator, gauges, controls and the air line port. The oil-lubricated 2.0 HP compressor is suited for pro applications, and the 4.5 gallon tank capacity can run up to four tools at one time. The unit weighs only 60 pounds. There is little doubt that more engine and powertrain components will be driven electrically than mechanically in the future. The future holds more electronics in mobile equipment powertrains, not less.
