10. More emphasis has been placed on full operating front wheel brakes. Eventually, automatic limiting valves (ALV) will be disallowed. A report filed by the USA National Transportation Safety Board identified them as contributing to truck accidents. Many drillpressfence truck manufacturers are now offering a bobtail proportioning valve for front brakes. It senses when the trailer is disconnected by sensing pressure in the tractor air line, and proportions air to the drive wheels whenever the tractor is operating without a trailer.Maintenance for proper balanceThe secret to successful drillpressfence brake balance through proper maintenance is in keeping the air brake system up to OEM (original equipment manufacturer) standards. Here is a baker''s dozen of suggestions that not only keep brakes in balance, but they also will contribute to maximum drum and lining life. Truckers that sub-contract brake maintenance should ensure the brake shop that they choose complies with the following:
