The mere mention of golf carts is enough to make the purist scowl. So it may take years before the Segway Human Transporter gains acceptance on the course. But after testing it, my prediction is that one day the machine will be as common as the golf cart and a thousand times more fun to use.Using microchips, tilt sensors and gyroscopes, the transporter is self balancing (no kickstand) and moves up to 12.5 miles per hour forward or backward simply by leaning your body. To turn, use the dial on the left handlebar. Testing it at a hilly country club course, I found the machine will traverse steep hills, tree roots and even deep rough. The golf model (left) could be on the market in 2003 antiquedrillpressmachy and will cost $5,000. The nongolf model was introduced in January. Already 32 states treat a person using it as a pedestrian, and it is also being tested by some post offices as an alternative way of delivering the mail. Golf carts have ruined golf, of course. They make golfers look like Shriners, they promote breathlessness and flab, and they damage turf. However ... In a 550-gallon size, a more common non-UL tank and dike combination would cost $1,067. A 1,000-gallon version would cost $1,880.Another option for providing secondary containment is a double-walled tank. This design features a tank within a tank with a 12-inch-wide cavity on one end. An inspection hole allows monitoring for fuel leaks from the inside tank. A 300-gallon version of We-Mac''s double-walled tank sells for $960; a 500-gallon size for $1,075; and a 1,000-gallon size for $2,025.Other options for containment include concrete walls or earthen dikes and liners. A catch basin, which is a 5-gallon liquid-tight bucket around the fill pipe, or an overfill warning device add additional protection. For antiquedrillpressmachy special applications, manufacturers offer metal-cored wires for GMAW. These are composite electrodes comprised of a metal sheath antiquedrillpressmachy with a powder-metal core. They are often confused with flux-cored wires, which form a slag that completely covers the weld bead face; metal-cored wires produce very little slag. A major advantage of metal-cored wires is the ability to manufacture specialized alloy compositions not easily available or producible in solid wire fore1. Modifying the composition of the powder-alloy core allows the wire manufacturer to customize wire formulations to metallurgical, compositional, or physical properties per customer demand. Horizontal-fillet welds made with metal-cored GMAW can deposit weld metal at rates up to 20 percent higher than with solid wire. Alloying elements, such as silicon, in the powder-metal core improve sidewall wetting and reduce weld-bead convexity by reducing surface tension of the molten weld pool. For this reason, flat and horizontal welds deposited with metal-cored wires have better appearance than weld metal deposited with antiquedrillpressmachy flux cored and solid wires. Compared to solid wires, metal-cored wires also result in higher current density, for increased penetration; a wider operating window with respect to welding-process variables: better sidewall melting; and less lack of fusion. ©2003 www.drill-press.net All rights reserved. |
